Physical Exams

When do I need a complete physical exam?

The complete physical exam is the most comprehensive examination and involves a full head-to-toe evaluation and should be performed annually. However, the goal of the exam is to give the experts at Dr. Bridget Bellingar DO & Associates a better understanding of your overall health so they can develop a plan focused on preventive care.

During your complete physical, the team reviews your medical and medication history, as well as your health concerns. They also perform a full physical exam, which may include:

  • Assessment of body composition
  • Check of heart rate and blood pressure
  • Evaluation of nose, mouth, and ears
  • Assessment of lung, heart, and bowel function
  • Palpation of internal organs
  • Check of reflexes

Diagnostic tests may also be requested during a complete physical, such as blood work, urinalysis, or imaging. Health screenings may also be recommended based on age and sex, such as skin cancer screening, colon cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, and/or bone density test.

What is a pre-employment physical exam?

Dr. Bridget Bellingar DO & Associates also offers pre-employment physical exams by appointment or walk-in. The purpose of the pre-employment physical exam is to assess wellness and look for signs of disease.

During a pre-employment physical exam, the team reviews your medical history and performs a physical examination similar to the complete physical exam.

What happens during a school and sports physical?

Dr. Bridget Bellingar DO & Associates offers Pinellas County School Physical Health Examinations for children ages 3 to 18 attending child care, pre-kindergarten, public, and/or private school. During the physical examination, the team conducts:

  • Complete physical examination
  • School-mandated vaccinations
  • Vision screening
  • Height and weight check

Most of the schools in Pinellas County require a sports physical. During the sports exam, the team screens for conditions that may hinder performance and determine if the athlete is physically capable of meeting the demands of the sport. The ultimate goal of the sports physical is to keep the athlete safe and prevent injury.
